Poetry and Photography by Jim Daniels and Charlee Brodsky
The exhibition invites visitors not only to view the photographs and poems on display, but to participate actively in the show by creating images and poems of their own. We hope that visitors will come to the show, look at Daniels’ and Brodsky’s work, and use that experience as a springboard for their own self-expression. Participants will be able to post their own original work, some in the gallery, others online through this exhibition site (register here to post photos).
Jim Daniels and Charlee Brodsky, both professors at Carnegie-Mellon University, have long records of achievement, both individually and in collaboration. Their book Street, featuring Daniels’ poetry and Brodsky’s photographs, won the Tillie Olsen prize.
Jim Daniels is a nationally known poet writer of fiction and screenplays. His latest books include Eight Mile High (short stories) and Birth Marks (poetry). He has won the Brittingham Prize for Poetry, and his work has appeared in the Best American Poetry anthology among others.
Charlee Brodsky was named Pittsburgh Artist of the Year in 2012. She won an Emmy with the film team that produced the documentary Stephanie, which was based on her book about her friend’s struggle with breast cancer. Her new book, I Thought I Could Fly, is a compilation of firsthand experiences with mental illness.
